April 8: Emma and Katie C. sang Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” for the worship service at Southminster Presbyterian Church. Your voices blended beautifully, and we received many compliments from members of the church. Thank you!
April 14: Jamie performed as Mrs. Potts in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr with Special Gifts Theater. You may have been cursed by a witch, but you didn’t let that stop you from playing the gracious hostess!
April 20: Faith O. performed as Sarah in her middle school’s production of Guys and Dolls, Jr. For your first role, this was a big one, and you did a wonderful job!
April 20/21: Julia N. performed in the ensemble for her middle school production of Sound of Music, Jr. We heard your voice grow a lot while preparing for this show and we’re very proud of your progress!
April 21: Katie C. performed in her final piano recital before going away to college, and she was asked to sing on the recital as a special treat. Your “Du bist die Ruh” was beautifully sung and heartfelt. Katie was also one of the winners of the Senior Solo Competition at her high school, where the winners perform in concerts accompanied by the orchestra. No singer has won this competition in recent memory. She dazzled the judges with the coloratura aria, “Glitter and be Gay” from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, and then went on to prepare the equally-difficult “The Doll’s Song” from Les Contes d’Hoffmann to perform with the orchestra. Congratulations!
April 27: Nicole auditioned for her high school talent show and then got to perform for the school. She sang “Se tu m’ami” and wowed her teachers and classmates with her full, operatic sound. You did a wonderful job!
May 5/6: Ken sang with the Village Singers in Lake Zurich on their Spring concert and was featured as a soloist singing “On the Street where You Live” from My Fair Lady. It was a cool, jazzy arrangement for a cool, jazzy guy and you gave a great performance!
May 20: Harold danced with his wife to a recording of himself singing “Have I Told You Lately that I Love You” by Scott Wiseman at their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He recorded the song as a surprise, since he’s never sung in public before. What a wonderful and special gift to help you prepare. Watching the video of the event brought tears of joy to our eyes. Congratulations!
Tina performed the aria “Vedrai carino” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni for the Elmhurst College women’s chorus concert tour in Michigan. Beautiful job!
Mia was one of four actors chosen for the National Theater for Student Artists production of Rebel Girls, a devised show that they will create themselves, based upon the book Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls. The performance will be July 29th at York Theater at St. Peters Church in New York City. Have a GREAT time in New York!
Faith R. won several awards on the Speech Team at her high school. She took home 1st place twice, as well as a 4th place award in the Prose category. Great job!
Faith O. was the only female to receive the Outstanding Achievement in Chorus award at her middle school. Congratulations!
