Winter/Spring 2020 Shout Outs!

So many of our talented students landed roles in productions with schools and theaters throughout the area, but many events were cancelled before we were able to see them perform. Before we were all forced into isolation, our calendar was absolutely PACKED with performances to attend. We will list everyone here to acknowledge their accomplishments, whether or not they were able to perform for an audience. You guys are awesome and you deserve the recognition!!!

Logan and Katie performed in Newsies with Schaumburg on Stage. Logan did double-duty as both Jack and Pulitzer (never on the same nights, of course). This meant that he had to learn and memorize pretty much the whole show! Katie was Hannah and also helped out as a Newsie in some of the big scenes. We loved your Long Island accent! You both did some great work on a very high-energy show!

Emma wowed the audience with Schubert’s Ave Maria in “Buffalo Grove’s Got Talent.” You did a great job preparing such a difficult piece and we know that you impressed a lot of people with your performance.

Nicole sang “Here I am, Lord” for the congregation at Southminster Presbyterian Church for the Sunday worship service. Many people commented on how your voice rang out so clearly and filled the sanctuary. Thank you for sharing your gift with the members at Southminster!

Jamie, Lia, Meilyn, and Valerie performed in The Little Mermaid, Jr with UPS for DownS. Meilyn was a charming and comical Sebastian. Jamie and Valerie were hilarious as the princesses competing for the attention of Prince Eric, and they helped in the ensemble for the rest of the show. Lia did double duty as Carlotta and a very sympathetic Lady in Waiting. This was such a fin show… oops, I meant fun show! We’re proud of all of you!

Ella, Faith O., Faith R., Nicole, and Zoe participated in their respective high school Solo and Ensemble competitions. All received great scores and very positive comments from the judges. We’re very proud of each of you!!! Congratulations!!!

Nicole sang the art song, “I Love All Graceful Things” as part of her choir concert at Wauconda High School. We were very impressed with how well you prepared this piece in such a short time. Nice work!

Noelle was Ariel in Little Mermaid, Jr. at Our Lady of the Wayside School. We’re so proud to see that all of your hard work pay off. You sounded great! We know you have more great roles like this one in your future!

Faith was Deb in Elf at Warren Township High School. The live performance was modified into an online scenes performance.  We are so proud of your hard work in preparing this show AND in your quick adaptation for this wintery ensemble performance. Wonderful job!

Katie entered a video of herself singing “What it means to be a friend” from 13: The Musical for the Schaumburg On Stage “On My Own” Couch Cabaret.  Great job!

COMING SOON ONLINE: High School Musical, Jr with UPS for DownS
Valerie (Gabriella), Nick (Ryan), and Jamie (Martha) will perform in a special online production of what was supposed to be a live performance of High School Musical, Jr. The show was postponed at the end of March and will soon be posted in an online version, once all the details have been worked out for filming and editing. We’re very proud of the work you all put into this show, including the work you’ve continued to do to keep it polished and ready to perform!! Keep it up! You’re almost there!

Lia (Clairee/Sammy), Valerie (Drum/Jackson), Jamie (Raul/Shelby) will also be performing in an online play production of Steel Magnolias with EDGE of Orion at the end of May.

On March 21, 2020, the Governor of Illinois ordered all residents of the state to remain at home and placed limits on public gatherings. As a result, all upcoming concerts and productions were postponed or cancelled. Here is a list of all of our students’ cancelled performances:

We’re not sure when things may be getting back to “normal” when it comes to the performing arts. Artists by their nature are resilient and adaptive. We will weather this storm, as we have so many others, and come out the other side ready to share our gifts with an audience that hungers for the emotional connection that live music and theater can provide.
